1. Workday
I just came back from work. I'm blown away by that
kind of work.
I think I really found something good for me. We had this 13 year old kid, that was being attacked
and knocked out for 2 minutes.
He was alert and orientated times 3, when we got there. We placed him
on the backboard and immobilized his c-spine. Than I prepped the IV bag
for the paramedic, and gave the boy oxygen via NRB 15L /min.
The next call was a 29 year old woman who was having
a miscarriage. She was in severe pain. Both lower abdominal quadrants
where affected. She got 15 l/min. O2 and an IV and we transported her.
The next call was the worst and the best.
Two kids had been run over by one car.
One 6 year old, and one 10 year old. The ten year old had a femur fracture
and the guys put a traction splint on him.
I was with the paramedics on that 6 year old.
He was in distress and somewhat severely injured. He
was conscious though and alert which was good. He had a big hematoma on
his left eye side and a hematoma with an abrasion on his forehead. No
severe bleeding luckily though.
I had to get his c-spine immobilized, which was really difficult but I
got it with the help of another guy, who held him in c-spine already.
Then we boarded him up just like I learned it in school. It was beautiful.
The boy took it really well. He was scared but tough. I prepped the IV
again, and monitored his airway, while we where transporting. The paramedic
couldn't get an IV running though. I also put a cooling pack on that one
abrasion to keep it from swelling more. Gosh, you guys didn't tell us,
that we have to grow two more extra hands for this job. It's great what's
going on in that tight back of the ambulance when you get real trauma.
And here comes the sick part. When I was kneeling in
front of the kid on the accident site, I felt very good.
I really felt, that this is something I should do...
It felt so good to be able to help that little kid and to start that getting
better and well again process right there.
It gave me a real kick.
The next call was an infant. It was reported that it
seemed to have difficulty breathing severely enough that the parents called
911. When we got there, it was ok again, but we still transported her
to the hospital.
She was so cute. 2 months old and I got to give her oxygen
and checked the cap refill . That was cool because I never did it on an
infant.
Gosh I'm tired now..
I will keep on thinking about that little boy.
I love this planet and everybody on it. Every creature.
And I love to help somebody who is in need of help.
